Following the criticism that greeted the arrest and arraignment of one
Mr. Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, who named his pet dog ‘Buhari,’ Mallam Garba
Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the
President has disclosed that President Buhari enjoys cartoons and likes
sharing them.
Garba Shehu, in a tweet on Thursday, revealed that people linking the President to this dog incident are just displaying their ignorance of the type of person, whom the President is.
According to him, Buhari enjoys cartoons and likes sharing them. He
said, “The ones he enjoys the most are those that caricature him. It is
cheap and sensational to say he can order a police action against a
caricature. When he picks a paper, the first page he reaches for is the
cartoon page. He laughs and laughs.
“The President must be having
a good laugh over this whole thing. People should listen to the real
story behind this dog incident and to not waste precious time seeking
the hand of the President in a laughable incident,” he disclosed.
Recall that the Dog owner was arrested on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at
the Ketere area, Sango, Ogun state, after one of his neighbours, who is
of Northern extraction, complained that he named the dog after his
father, Alhaji Buhari.
He was first taken to the Sango Police Station, from where he was transferred to the state police command headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The accused has since perfected his bail and he has been released on Thursday, after he had spent three days in Ibara Prisons, Abeokuta.
Joe was later granted bail on Monday at Ota Magistrate Court 2, and was released on Thursday, when a reproduction warrant was brought to the prison officials at Ibara Prisons.
